Saturday, September 9, 2023: Don and Tanya Smith of Greeley-Howard-Norlin-Smith present “History of Chicagoland in Maps.” The Smiths are closing their company, which has done land surveying and map making since 1854. They begin with the brief history of how and why the land in the U.S. was originally
divided & sold. A brief history follows of their family’s 168+ year Land Surveying & Map Making business. The Smiths will talk about the most interesting projects, including some of the many boundary disputes, from their historical archive. In addition to their Power Point presentation, they will display some antique instruments as well as some of the antique & vintage maps, plats, atlases from their unique historical archives.
